Equine-assisted wellbeing programme

Wellbeing focused sessions for individuals and groups, lead by a Wellbeing Practitioner who is supervised by a Mental Health Specialist.

Sessions focus on improving wellbeing through calming, regulating activities with the horses and in nature and on building relationships with peers through supported group delivery with young people of a similar age experiencing similar challenges.

  • Our well-being sessions are available as one-to-one (60 minutes) or as part of an open group (120 minutes).

  • Our 120-minute group sessions are available to individuals in open groups, or as private sessions arranged through schools and partner organisations.

Who can benefit from our wellbeing programme?

Young people experiencing poor well-being who would benefit from time in nature and support in making relationships with peers.

I’ve achieved loads of goals whilst I’ve been here, when I arrived I had no qualifications and now I do, so I’m proud of all the achievements I’ve made. It’s been good to set goals and then look back and see my progress.

What happens in a well-being session

Therapeutic activities with horses

Young people are supported to engage in relaxing, co-regulating activities with the horses. Activities include brushing, leading, and observing the herd, and taking part in calming, mindful routines on the stable yard—such as mucking out, gardening, and foraging herbs for the horses.

Reducing isolation through group work

Where appropriate, young people are gently introduced to small peer groups. We focus on teamwork, social connection, and mentoring to reduce isolation and foster friendships.

Progressing into education or work

As wellbeing improves, young people can transition into our alternative education programme. Here, they work toward qualifications and gain the skills needed to access further education, vocational training, volunteering, or employment—opening the door to a more confident, independent future.

How to refer

We welcome referrals from anyone, at any time.

We offer support at every stage of a young person's journey.

Our referrals range from young people in acute crisis who feel unable to leave the house to those exploring career options and seeking training to secure a job in the equestrian industry.

We accept both group and individual referrals

We accept group referrals to run tailored programmes for up to 16 young people at a time, and we also welcome individual referrals.
