What we do

At Strength and Learning Through Horses (SLTH), we offer individually tailored equine-assisted therapy, well-being and alternative education programmes for children and young people aged 7 to 25 years old.

Most of our programmes are delivered from our yard in High Barnet on the outskirts of North London. For those young people who can’t come to us, our outreach programme offers an opportunity to change young lives for the better, in settings such as prisons or inpatient units.

Who we help

Strength and Learning Through Horses supports young people aged 7–25 who are struggling with mental health challenges, trauma, learning difficulties, school refusal, or social isolation.

Whether they’ve been excluded from school, are experiencing anxiety or depression, or need additional support to thrive, our experienced team of mental health professionals, equine behaviour specialists and specialist educators helps them build confidence, develop life skills, and re-engage with learning through meaningful interaction with our herd of horses.

About our programmes

☑️ All our programmes are tailored with the needs of the individual young person in mind and can be adapted over time as these needs change.

☑️ We look to address both well-being and educational development in all our programmes. Many education programmes will include input from a mental health specialist, and our therapy programmes will receive input from the education team.

☑️ Our programmes are delivered by Programme Leads. Our mental health specialists and education specialists supervise the programme delivery to ensure the needs of young people are considered holistically.

How to refer

We welcome referrals from anyone, at any time.

Whether you’re a young person, a parent, a teacher, or a social worker, if you know a young person who would benefit from our services, you can refer them to us.

We offer support at every stage of a young person's journey.

Our referrals range from young people in acute crisis who feel unable to leave the house to those exploring career options and seeking training to secure a job in the equestrian industry.

We accept both group and individual referrals

We accept group referrals to run tailored programmes for up to 16 young people at a time, and we also welcome individual referrals.

Not sure what service you need?

You don’t need to know what service would be most appropriate for you or the young person/people you support. Simply complete a referral form, and one of our referral team members will contact you to find out more and advise on which of our services would be most helpful.
