Our Fit For The Future Appeal
It’s time we built London’s first purpose-built equine therapy centre for young people.
We’re at bursting point and turning young people away because we lack on-site facilities to meet increasing demand.
We need to upgrade our centre so we can:
Have a fully accessible site, including wheelchair accessibility and quiet sensory spaces.
Have the ability to run multiple programmes on-site simultaneously - doubling capacity.
Reduce costs (we will save £15,000 per year due to solar panels and reduced maintenance and repair costs)
Improve horse wellbeing - creating a welfare-led barn and track system allowing the horses to live with Freedom, Forage and Friends and have warm, dry shelter available at all times.
Generate additional income (new training contracts, corporate team building days, as well as offer the site for hire for events/films etc)
Create a community facility to be shared with other community groups (woodland schools, therapists, youth clubs)

To build a stable future for young people, we will need to raise £814,000 - as well as the costs to operate our programmes and training.

2023 - SLTH moved to a new site
Barnet Council gave us a long-term lease on a derelict stable yard in High Barnet. It is a beautiful site rich with nature and easily accessible by public transport. It was however derelict and unsafe for use.
Phase 1: 2023-2025
We have successfully upgraded the site to create a usable space for our horses, young people and staff:
A new 60 x 30 arena sponsored by Barnet Council & Ascot Racecourse
Water, electricity and internet connections
3 portacabin classrooms and offices and a Therapy Room
Temporary disabled accessible toilet block
Car Park
Fenced-in paddocks
Rubbish removal
Derelict buildings are boarded up and patched up where we can make them safe
The site is now in full use and is a godsend! However, we have just three stables for our 14 horses (and one leaks!) and we do not have sheltered space for young people to work with horses in bad weather. The ground is muddy and inaccessible for young people with mobility issues, and lacks good lighting, so often, young people have to carry torches in the winter.

To complete our vision of creating London’s only purpose-built equine-assisted therapy centre we will need to raise a further £814,000 to construct buildings for our horses and young people to use:
A barn, covered arena and stable block
Permanent Classrooms & Offices

Sensory Spaces
Full Disabled Access (including groundworks, toilets, lighting, parking)
Rewilding of additional land
